I trust everyone is enjoying these hot summer days. This month’s General Meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 25 at Applebee’s. Networking hour will start at 6 p.m. and the General Meeting will start at 7 p.m. Our Membership Speaker will be Shari Sugarman, Esq.
This Saturday, July 23, Chamber Member Tim Rissmiller will be hosting “Smash Brother II” video contests at St. Paul’s Reformed Church. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Even if you do not play I encourage you to stop by and see what Tim sets up to run this event.
A plea still goes out to all our members to put aside a few hours and help with this event. The Board of this Chamber cannot always provide the manpower to run some of these events. This is one of those events that will need additional volunteers, even if it is for a few hours.
The Chamber runs these events to raise money either for the Chamber or a worthwhile cause. In this case the entire proceeds will be donated to Chamber Member – St. Paul’s Reformed Church who does so much for this community and asks very little in return. In addition, Tim has also tied a food drive into this event. So please bring a food item to donate to the North Babylon Food Pantry.
While on the subject of the food pantry, it was brought up at our last General Meeting that we should encourage those members attending the meeting to bring a food item in to donate to the food pantry. The food pantry serves over 100 members of our community and during the summer time the donations dwindle to a near halt. So please try to remember to bring an item or two down so that it can be given to the food pantry.
I have been in touch with a few of our member restaurants and currently working on having some of our future meeting held at their establishments. It looks like the following will be scheduled: September meeting will be held at Mangia’s; November will be held at Pizzaiola and December will be held at Casa Del Campo. Not to conflict with the Christmas holiday, the December meeting will be held on the second Monday of the month, December 12.
On Saturday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. the Town of Babylon will be hosting the dedication of the Chamber sign located at the corner of Hubbard’s Path and Belmont Avenue. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
Also I am happy to report that with the hard work of Richard Irizarry and Terence Mc Sweeney, plans are being made for the Chamber will be holding its first Annual Street Fair on Sunday, October 9. Rides will be offered to children, food and booths will be erected. For those members who would like to market their business the booths will be offered at a discounted rate.
Yours in Business,
Garrett P. Simulck, Sr.
