I trust everyone is enjoying these hot summer days. This month’s General Meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 22, at Applebee’s. Networking hour will start at 6 p.m. and the General Meeting will start at 7 p.m. Our Membership Speaker will be Ellie Gomez, Branch Manager of Bethpage Federal Credit Union.

On Saturday, July 23, Chamber Member Tim Rissmiller hosted a very successful “Smash Brothers II” video contest at St. Paul’s Reformed Church. The entire proceeds from this event were donated to St. Paul’s Reformed Church and donated food items to the North Babylon Pantry. I would like to thank Chamber members Casa Del Campo, Dunkin Donut’s of North Babylon, Mangia Pizza, North Babylon Deli & Food and Pizzaiola for their donations which played a big part in raising money for the church.

Little did any of us know at the time but, this was Tim’s last act as a member of this Chamber. Tim informed the Board shortly after this event that he was stepping down from the Board and would no longer be a member of the Chamber. Tim worked hard for the Chamber and added so much to this Board. He will be missed.

However, as the saying goes – “as one door closes, another opens.” Terence McSweeney has graciously agreed to return to the Board as a Director and will be replacing Tim.

The dedication of the Chamber Sign at Belmont & Hubbard’s Path was held on Saturday, July 30 and was well attended by many local residents. I would like to thank State Senator Phil Boyle, State Assemblyman Andrew Raia, Town Supervisor Rich Schafer (who presided over the dedication), Town councilmen Tony Martinez and Tom Donnelly for taking part in the dedication. In addition, Deacon John Alteri of the St Paul’s Reform Church gave the blessing and Boy Scout Troop 399 and their Scout Master Joe Fatruzzo for providing the color guard. And a special thank you to Florence Findley of the Town’s Beautification for her support and helping make this a great event.

Our Chamber members attending our General Meetings are once again reminded and encouraged to bring a food item(s) to donate to the food pantry. The food pantry serves over 100 members of our community and during the summer time the donations dwindle to a near halt. So please try to remember to bring an item or two down so that it can be given to the food pantry.

Though the “dog days of summer” are here, the month seems to be shaping up as a great month for the Chamber. On Saturday, August 6 Councilmen Tony Martinez and Tom Donnelly from the Town of Babylon and several Chamber members participated in the Grand Opening for our newest member H & R de Paris Bridal Boutique located in Sunset City Shopping Mall.

I would also like to welcome the following new members into the Chamber; Chris Reardon of Eco Touch Auto Spa, Lesley LongMcCleod of Pampered Chef. Further, Town Councilmen Tony Martinez and Thomas Donnelly have become Honorary Members of the Chamber.

Please plan on joining us at this month’s meeting to learn more from Richard Irizarry and Terence McSweeney about the Chambers First Fall Festival which will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2016. Rides will be offered to children, food and vendors will be on hand. Members who would like to market their businesses will be offered at a discounted rate.

Yours in Business,
