Member Rosemarie Todaro of the Anthony Todaro Foundation will be hosting a fundraiser on Sunday May 1 in Deer Park at Fireman’s Field on Commack Road. The event starts at 10 a.m. Please join and support this event and I hope to see many of our members and their families there. In addition, this event will also sponsor the First Annual Softball game between the Deer Park Chamber vs. the North Babylon Chamber. This will be one for the record.
The recent meeting with Florence Finley of the Town of the Babylon Beautification Projects regarding that the corner area of Hubbard Path and Belmont Avenue to become the Adopt-A-Spot for the North Babylon Chamber went well. I would like to thank Members Ralph and John Carpuso of Stables Garden Center for allowing two of their employees to accompany me to the corner and lay out an idea of what can be planted using the same “footprint” that had been previously used. Their ideas were presented to Florence and it appears she liked what was proposed. If approved, this corner will display signage that the Chamber has adopted the corner and the idea that the sign will allow us to display on a monthly or quarterly basis a MEMBER’S BUSINESS. Therefore, not only will the Chamber have its name displayed but our members on a rotating basis will have their Business names displayed. .
The Chamber has sponsored Scholarships to deserving students from North Babylon starting with the Class of 2016. This year’s Committee of Diane DeLuca, Judy Keller and Diana Simulcik reviewed those scholarship applications that were submitted and were extremely pleased with the quality of each of the application. Each of these students put forth a great effort in applying for these scholarships As the Committee found it hard to select just two winners the Chamber Board decided to grant a third scholarship. One of the essays came forth with the following quote – “North Babylon – where new roots intertwine with old roots.” We are working to have this quote displayed either on the Adopt-A-Spot corner of at another location in North Babylon. Congratulations to the winners. If you are interested, the High School will be hosting Scholarship Night on Wednesday, May 25. Come see what the class of 2016 has accomplished.
As many of you know that the Chamber had worked with the Town to provide bus service for the residents that live in Weeks Road Manor and Primrose Lane Condos to Sunset City Plaza in light of Pathmarks closing. However, since the usage was low the Town had to stop its regular scheduled runs. However, it was worked out that if any Tenant was in need of rides they will be given a telephone number and can make arrangements for bus transportation during the Town other scheduled runs. So all is not lost for those individuals wishing to obtain transportation. I would like to thank the Town of Babylon of their effort and support of this program.
In closing, I would like to remind everyone that Member Tim Rissmiller is hosting a Chamber Fund Raiser on Sunday, May 15 at St. Paul’s Reformed Church – Super Smash Brothers I, come by and see those entered compete against each other for various prizes.
Wishing all members a happy and productive spring.
